School of Environmental Science and Engineering

School of Environmental Science and Engineering of SCUT (ESE) consists of the departments of Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, City Engineering and a research institute of environmental science. The student population of 1027 includes 63 doctoral degree students, 254 science Master degree students and 72 engineering Master degree students.
 
The high-quality staff, mainly composed of middle-aged and young professionals consists of 67 members: 53 full-duty teachers, 6 lab personnel and 8 administrators. Among the 53 teachers, 12 are professors (including 8 doctoral student supervisors), while 25 are associate professors or equivalents. 51 faculty members hold doctoral or Master degrees. This highly proficient and committed staff provides a solid foundation for excellent education. Through the “Hundred-Person Project,” this School has recruited one Specially Chair Professor, 3 Guest Chair Professors and 4 “outstanding youths”. Academician Ouyang Ziyuan, the chief scientist for China’s “Moon Exploring Project” is also engaged, while Academician Mu Yang of the Canadian Royal Academy is invited as a Consultant Professor. In addition, 9 honorary or visiting professors have been invited from the USA, Hong Kong and other places.
 
At present, the School offers one level-1 discipline doctoral degree program, administers one post-doctoral research station, and manages a number of provincial key disciplines and a provincial key lab. Every year, the faculty members take charge of over 100 national and provincial projects with the fund exceeding 20,000,000 yuan. The scientific research atmosphere, the plentiful scientific projects and the achievements attained combine to create chances for the students to participate in environmental science and research practice and get in direct touch with the newest frontiers of knowledge, while intensifying the student’s abilities for practical work. The total floor space of the school buildings is 15000 square meters and the total worth of the equipment and instruments comes to more than 10,000,000 yuan.
 
The school is committed to international academic exchanges and has established long-term collaboration relationships with famous universities and scientific research institutions in America, Korea, England, France and Japan. Every year, faculty members go abroad for academic interflow and foreign experts come to make reports. In recent years, a number of postgraduates and undergraduates have been sent abroad as exchange students in order to broaden their international horizon and improve their abilities for development.
